Firm History

Most consulting firms weren’t designed for the mid-market. Inside Consulting was.

Since 2005, we have helped middle-market companies capture savings, streamline operations, and build capabilities that stick. Our engagements are led by senior practitioners with Big Three and operating backgrounds, not analysts learning on your dollar.

Rick Condon founded Inside Consulting after nearly a decade at McKinsey, where he saw firsthand how large firms struggled to serve smaller clients efficiently. Middle-market companies faced a frustrating choice: pay enterprise rates for junior teams, or settle for boutique firms without the operational depth to deliver. Inside Consulting was built as the alternative, bringing genuine senior expertise to Finance, Supply Chain, and Sales Operations engagements where it matters most.

RICHARD CONDON

PARTNER (Emeritus)

For 20 years, Rick partnered with mid-market leaders on the challenges that mattered most: accelerating earnings growth, improving operational performance, and driving strategic initiatives to completion. His clients spanned a broad range of industries and were typically privately held companies or comparable business-unit-scale operations.

Rick built his practice around a simple conviction: results have to show up where clients actually care. That meant earnings and revenue growth more often than not, and it meant measurable improvement year over year. With that focus as his foundation, he founded Inside Consulting in 2005, assembling a team around business performance improvement across a range of contexts: EBITDA optimization ahead of a transaction, company turnaround, cost reduction, revenue enhancement, and operational due diligence.

Before founding IC, Rick served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Nuclear Submarine Force, then earned his MBA and joined McKinsey & Co., where he advised Fortune 500 clients on business strategy. He subsequently moved into industry, serving as Director of Global Strategy at Thomson Reuters and Vice President of Marketing for one of its high-growth publishing businesses.

Education
Rick holds a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Minnesota, a master’s-equivalent in Nuclear Engineering from the U.S. Navy, and an MBA with honors from the University of Chicago. He received his Naval Nuclear Engineering certification in 1998.

Core Values

Client ROI First

Our benchmark is simple: return on consulting. We hold ourselves accountable for delivering incremental value at a multiple of our fees.

Incentive alignment

We put fees at risk. Our incentives are aligned with yours from day one, and we don’t consider an engagement successful until the savings show up in your financial statements.

Data driven

We let the facts lead. Every recommendation and action is grounded in empirical analysis rather than rules of thumb or intuition. We follow the data wherever it goes.

Value delivery focus

We deliver results, not recommendations. Our work is measured in financial statements, not PowerPoint decks. From hypothesis to implementation, we partner with client teams and do the work directly: running sourcing events, executing pricing pilots, and driving value at every step.

CEO perspective

Most consulting work happens in one function and stops there. We work across Finance, Product, Operations, and Sales simultaneously because the greatest value is often at the intersections.

Customized approach

Every engagement starts with your situation, not a template. We apply proven methodologies and proprietary tools selectively, focusing our energy on the issues with the highest impact on your bottom line.

How are we different

Our team brings top-tier consulting backgrounds together with real operational and leadership experience. We’ve run businesses, not just advised them.

  • We apply microeconomic principles to quantify leverage and model its implications on your business, whether for pricing or sourcing. This lets us find savings even in situations that appear low-leverage on the surface.
  • We draw on advanced analytical methods, including Linear Performance Pricing, Multivariate Regression Modeling, and Zero-Based Budgeting, to surface insights that standard approaches miss.
  • We apply hypothesis-driven problem-solving to stay focused on the issues that actually move the needle, which is why our results and client ROI consistently outperform those of traditional consultants.
  • We bring capabilities that are rarely available at the mid-market level. Our proprietary diagnostic scoring tool prioritizes effort from day one, and our customized live-bidding platform delivers pricing transparency and reverse-auction capability that most clients have never had access to before.
